MCPS To Present New Tech Policy to BOE on May 7
5/4/2026 1:24 pm
On May 7, MCPS will be presenting its final "IGS" (technology policy) to the Board of Education (see agenda). This is a great opportunity for as many of us as possible to provide oral or written testimony on our views on screens in schools!
There are two ways to share your thoughts:
- SIGN UP TO TESTIFY ORALLY ASAP. There are 20 speaker slots, and it is first come, first served, though preference will be given to those who have spoken recently. You can select in-person, video, or audio. The latter two options are pre-recorded so you don't have to be available on May 7. Sign up HERE.
- PROVIDE WRITTEN TESTIMONY. Send your comments to BOETestimony@mcpsmd.org prior to May 7 and they are supposed to be provided to BOE members. I suggest putting "Policy IGS, Educational Technology" in the title. It does not need to be formal! Just share from your heart!
Here are some resources that may help you get some ideas:
- Draft IGS Policy that was put out for public comment last fall.
- My comments on the draft IGS Policy as the MCCPTA Technology Committee Chair.
- Resources on Tech and AI, which includes the MCCPTA resolution on tech and AI, our Chromebook survey report, a 2-page infographic about the Chromebook report (also attached).
Let's not miss this opportunity to make sure they hear our voices! Please consider at least writing in, even a few sentences about what you'd like to see MCPS do with screens in schools!
