The Club Hub provides general information about before and after school enrichment activities available to Ashburton Elementary School students. Detailed and up-to-date club information will be provided by the individual program providers. Please contact the vendors directly for any specific queries including activity and instructor specifics.

 

Registration Disclaimers: Before and after school activities from outside vendors, companies or individuals are not sponsored nor endorsed by Ashburton Elementary School, the Ashburton Elementary School PTA, the Board of Education of Montgomery County, or the Superintendent. Activity providers are responsible for students during the time of the scheduled activity and are required to manage arrival and dismissal of their activity. Ashburton Elementary School and the Ashburton Elementary School PTA are not liable for any injuries that occur during extracurricular activities. Please note that the clubs are operated by private vendors and all concerns related to the club should be shared directly with the vendor. These clubs provide many opportunities for student enrichment and some extra time at school. We want these to be safe, fun experiences for children. Safety includes getting the child to the club and making sure they do not get on the bus with no one there to meet them.

 

Notify Your Student's Homeroom Teacher: If your student is registered for a club, you must notify the homeroom teacher of the dates of attendance. The teacher and dismissal announcements will help remind students at dismissal but staff cannot walk students to their club classroom.  Please make sure your student knows their weekly club day(s) and discuss what room the club will be in and where you will meet them at the end of the activity. 

 

Student Pickup Procedures for Families: MCPS does not provide an activity bus for these clubs. Please be prompt in picking up your student. Dismissal times vary based on club/activity. Please check registration details and email confirmations from the individual program provider to verify the dismissal time of your student's activity. The activity providers are not daycare providers. Parents or designated caregivers must pick up their students outside by the gym entrance doors - Door 24.

Let’s start speaking! A fun introduction to a new language where children can learn and practice speaking Spanish with songs, games, movement, storytelling, and hands-on activities in an informal, immersion-style setting. This level is appropriate for new beginners and for students with some previous language experience, which may include children who hear and speak the language at home. Classes are intended for children who are just beginning to read and write in English, or who have not yet begun to read and write. Each session (Fall, Winter, and Spring) introduces children to new vocabulary, topics, and themes. Vocabulary booklets and activities support early literacy skills in the language.

MSA offers outdoor soccer clinics in the fall and spring seasons. Our Clinic Focus – on teaching fundamentals of soccer in fun method. For boys and girls ages 5 – 12 years old. Children are grouped by grades k - 2nd  and 3rd - 5th. These programs are offered as an after school activity and on the weekend. Optional Saturday games are available for the children to practice their newly acquired skills. The program runs in Montgomery County public schools and parks.

MSA offers a fantastic program coached by our professional staff which teaches the basic skills of football, running, passing, receiving and defending. Through fun skill based drills, children will learn the concepts of the game of football. Children will build the basic foundation of football to advance them to a higher level of play, and will have a great time obtaining these skills in our fun program. All our our coaching staff are very knowledgeable in teaching the game of football.  Our staff is dedicated to your child’s needs.

MSA is offering a Cheer Champs (Dance and POMs) program that teaches new techniques for beginners. Serena of the Baltimore Ravens will coach the Cheer Champs Squad. Your child will learn basic dance routines, and POMS during this class. This program is perfect for beginners who want to learn basic dance routines. Participants will perform their routines on the last of their clinics. Parents, guardians and family are welcome to attend. 

 

Bring your own POMS. Uniforms for the final show are to be provided by parents or guardians.

Beginner Ballet is designed for younger ballet students of both genders.  The curriculum includes basic ballet posture, basic positions of the feet and arms and basic ballet steps that are appropriate for young children.  Group movement such as forming circles, lines, and moving in unison will be taught. Classical music as well as children’s songs are used as accompaniment during the class.  Traditional leather or canvas soft ballet slippers are highly recommended (pink or white). Students will also learn a ballet piece during the session. Parents are invited to attend any class they choose to observe what their student has learned during the session.

Basketball Clinics, for Boys and Girls, Ages 5-12 years old. Our basketball program is coached by former and present collegiate players from University of Maryland and various other universities, NCAA Champion players, former NBA players and MSA professional coaching staff. Our attentive and loving staff will provide your child with the knowledge of the game, and the encouragement your child needs for a well-rounded basketball program. MSA provides all the equipment including basketballs. There will no practices during school closure days, half-days or holidays. MSA Basketball Program will emphasis on developing sound fundamental skills, confidence, teamwork and of course fun for all. The skills taught are Dribbling, Passing, Shooting, Offense, Defense, Rebounding, and more . . . Small-sided games will be played during the instruction hour. This program is for boys and girls, Grades k– 5, Children will be grouped by age and skill levels.

Ignite your child’s digital creativity! Make screen time interactive, educational, and inspiring this fall! MSA STEM Class teaches children to create interactive games and animations, starting with basic coding languages like Scratch Jr. The Class consists of classroom training with hands-on experience. Children will work in group setting to create their projects. We staff our class at a less than 8:1 student-to-coach ratio.

Participants will get to utilize our laptops or chromebooks and learn basic programming skills in friendly settings.

MSA is offering a Fantastic Before or after school Program that teaches your child Yoga. For Boys and Girls, Ages 5 - 12 yrs. The greatest benefit of yoga over other physical activities lies in the integrated relaxation response, which is triggered by a combination of careful postures, which involve basic stretching and focused breathing. Yoga raises awareness about the importance of good health and posture, including maintaining a healthy weight. It also teaches healthy self-regulation and awakens passion and creativity. Yoga Cultivates more sensitive listening and tolerance, Promotes effective techniques (such as breathing) for managing stress, and Helps children channel their energy.

The Robotics STEM Class is designed for ages 5 - 13 years old. There are Two sessions in the Winter. Each session has weekly classes after school during Winter 2024/2025. Participants will build robots using Legos kits and program the robots with computer software. Participants are placed in small groups based on their age & skills. Learn chess with Silver Knights Chess, formerly called Magnus Academy! We’ve taught 100,000 children to play including state & national champions, but most students are beginners looking to learn a new skill and have FUN. Class time is divided between lessons and practice games. Lessons range from the basic rules to advanced tournament strategies.

Students will have the opportunity to play in tournaments (in-person and online) outside of club time. This in-person club includes free online extras including a ChessKid Gold Membership, weekly practice tournaments and a bonus event with a chess star. Prior guests have included 5x world champion Magnus Carlsen or Judit Polgar, the best female chess player of all time. All chess supplies provided. Hip Hop is a high-energy dance form that uses the latest sounds in rap, R&B, and pop music, and is perfect for boys and girls who love to move! This fun-filled class immerses students in all aspects of motion, developing their balance, coordination and strength, as well as promoting creativity, teamwork, and self-esteem. We use child-friendly music in all of our Hip Hop classes (often Kids Bop), and all movement is age-appropriate. As always, classes this session will feature new music and choreography. The MSA Tennis Program is designed for players of all ages who would love to learn and exercise the sport of tennis. To be a part of the MSA Tennis Program, previous tennis success is NOT required. What is required is a desire to become a truly accomplished tennis player by learning the skills and techniques to obtain an in-depth understanding of tennis and love for the game. The experience extends well beyond the tennis courts. Away from the rigors of practice and competition, young tennis players become involved in the participation of healthy habits and the building of lasting friendships among tennis players.

Which poles attract, which repel?  Discover the science behind water and gravity using a spinning turbine and mix colors using capillary action. Make a static testing electroscope, slimy magnetic goo, and experiment with mini submarines!

Discover the science behind invisible forces! In this exploration of natural energy, students do hands-on activities and experiments to investigate the power and properties of air, wind, water, gravity, magnetism, and static electricity. Observe a magnetic field using iron filings and use your knowledge to make a compass; explore potential and kinetic energy with an ‘Energy Can’ you can take home; study capillary action with Suminagashi paints; make an electroscope to test static charge; use solar panels to make a buzzer buzz; and connect conductive copper to make a colorful piece of LED light art!
